El “tigre de la raza humana” como había sido apodado, murió en 1909 cautivo y olvidado en la reserva de Fort Sill. Jerónimo (Apache) “Mother, sing me a song so that makes me forget my pain, repair my broken bones and make me whole again”. Jeronimo, whose real name was Goyathlay (the Yawning one), was born in New Mexico, in 1834. Medicine man if any, he became the Chieftain of the Apaches Chicarauas and fought both the Mexicans and the North Americans in 1886. The “Tiger of the Human Race” as he was called, died in 1909, as a forgotten prisoner at Fort Sill Reservation. The pre-sent Apache population is thought to amount to 10,000 people distributed in several reservations in New Mexico, Arizona and Oklahoma. Their language is Atapasco.
