Toro Sentado. Su verdadero nombre era Yatanka Tatanka. Jefe militar y espiritual de los Sioux Lakota Hunkpapa. Se fija su nacimiento entre 1831 y 1834. Desde muy pequeño mostró su valor y se convirtió en el líder espiritual y militar de la resistencia contra los blancos. Vencedor de Custer en la legendaria batalla de Little Bighorn (1.876), fue asesinado el 15 de Diciembre de 1.890 dentro de la campaña de represión contra los indios que acabó con la escalofriante matanza de Wounded Knee (1.890) donde no quedó un solo ser vivo; ancianos, niños y mujeres incluidas.
La población actual de Sioux se calcula en unos 52.000 en Reservas de Minnesota, Montana y Nebraska.
Una mujer llamada Fanny Kelly, la cual estuvo secuestrada en su tribu lo describió; “.Es un amigo sincero y verdadero, es un patriota devoto e incorruptible.

Sitting Bull. His real name was Yatanka Tatanka and he was the spiritual and military chief of the Hunpapa Lakota Sioux. He was born between 1831 and 1834. From his early childhood, he proved extremely courageous and later on, he became the spiritual and military leader of the resistance against the white men. He defeated Custer at the legendary battle of Little Bighorn (1876) and was assassinated on December 15th. 1890, in the repressive campaign against the Indians that was closed by the terrible massacre of Wounded Knee (1890) where not a single Indian was left alive, either wom-an, child or elderly. The present population of Sioux is around 52.000 individuals distributed over dif-ferent reservations in Minnesota, Montana and Nebraska. A woman called Fanny Kelly, who was ab-ducted by the Sioux, described him as follows: “He is a true and honest friend, an incorruptible and straight patriot. He is a good and tender husband and father. He is a perfect and generous host.”
